We are diving deep into the teachings of Jesus on the Kingdom of God through his powerful parables.
If you missed last week's service, don't worry! You can catch up by watching it here on our YouTube channel or listening to the podcast on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Search for FBC Davis Sermon Podcast. Stay connected and engaged!
Looking ahead, we encourage you to read the upcoming parable that will be the focus of our next sermon. It will deepen your understanding and enrich your spiritual journey as we explore together how the parables provoke us into kingdom living.
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 He (Jesus) also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[a] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Write the point of the parable (We cannot love God with disdain for others in our hearts) in the middle of a sheet of paper, then make a mind map list around the main point of all the applications you can think of.
I am excited to preach this coming Sunday on such a wonderful passage because it shows the marvelous connection between God and man. To love God is to love others.
